Compromise?

Why should I listen and compromise with “the other side”? It’s not like we’re choosing a restaurant or which movie to see. We’re not dealing with the everyday fiscal conservative with moderate or even indifferent social beliefs. The power center of the conservative movement wants to ensure that they and theirs get their money, their tax breaks, their privilege maintained. They want to ensure the very basis of their bigoted belief system is kept in power. I have nothing in common with any of this. Why would I want to compromise?

But that’s why I’m not a politician. I cannot in good conscience decide that I will take some progressive rights away to keep or enhance others. Besides, working with the fools on the right just gives them credibility they neither earned or deserve. If we can ever do away with gerrymandering, we’ll see just how small and impotent these conservatives really are.
